Residents of Goshen Township,
It has been a pleasure for me to serve you over the past 27 years. Since its inception in 1971, the Goshen Township Police Department has grown from four officers to our current staff of 12 full-time and 2 part-time professional employees serving a population of approximately 19,000 residents in an area encompassing more than 36 square miles. Our police staff includes;
- A School Resource Officer assigned to Goshen Schools.
- A police canine used to sniff out drugs, track suspects who flee, and search for missing persons.
- A Police Records Clerk.
- Detectives with specialized training to investigate major crimes.
Our officers are proud to serve the Goshen community and we are constantly striving for excellence. With the passage of this Safety Services Levy and upon approval of the trustees, funding will be available to do the following;
- Prevent the layoff of two full-time police officers.
- Promptly hire two police officers to ensure there are two day shift officers on duty every day.
- Add a part-time Records Clerk to be available to the public during the evening hours to answer phone calls, obtain copies of police reports, and assist citizens with questions.
- Maintain a high level of training.
- Replace outdated and worn out equipment.
- Add additional officers in the years to come.
As Goshen continues to grow, so does the number of calls for police service. In 2007 we handled 28,105 calls to service. This is more than 77 calls per day. Although this is a nearly overwhelming number for our small staff, we got the job done. Upon the passage of this levy, the police department will be able to keep the valuable personnel we’ve got and add officers to improve our response time, step up our aggressive drug interdiction efforts, and increase police presence to deter criminal activity in neighborhoods, side streets, and business districts. Help us keep you safe by voting YES on August 5th.
Respectfully,
