Residents of Goshen Township,
I am proud to serve you as a member of the Goshen Township Fire Department. I have been a member of the department for more than 41 years and have served in the capacity of Fire Chief for 27 years now. Today, your Goshen Township Fire Department is staffed 24 hours a day with the finest men and women in the business. Our personnel are well trained and have various certifications including emergency medical technicians, paramedics, and firefighters. These individuals respond at a moments notice to persons in need of aid, often putting their own lives in harms way.
Every year our community continues to grow both in population and in vehicular traffic. With community growth it is important that emergency services also grow to keep pace with the ever increasing call volume. In 2007 alone, we responded to 569 fire details and more than 1,900 EMS details. As a result of the increased call volume, we find ourselves faced with a funding deficit which will require the layoffs of at least two full-time firefighters. This potential reduction in personnel comes at a time when we are already understaffed and should be adding firefighters, not losing them. Upon the passage of this levy and through the approval of our Township Trustees, funding will be used to:
- Prevent layoffs from occurring
- Replace aging vehicles and medical equipment
- Provide staff with additional training
- Add personnel
To maintain and expand upon the quality of services provided by your Goshen Township Fire Department, I ask you, the residents of Goshen Township to vote YES on this very important Safety Services Levy on August 5th.
Respectfully,

Virgil Murphy
Fire Chief
